Why we start every pottery class with centering — and what it teaches beyond the studio.
Every pottery class at Estaaj begins the same way: hands wet, a lump of clay, and the quiet work of centering it on the wheel. It is the hardest part and the most important.
Centering can't be rushed. Push too hard and the clay wobbles; too soft and it never settles. Beginners often fight it for a whole first session — and then something clicks, the clay goes still, and the room goes quiet with them.
That is the lesson we love to share. The vase comes later. First you learn to slow down, to feel, to let the material meet you halfway.
